And if you are still not astounded by the growth of cell phones today, consider this. Every year and a half, the cell phone networks are doubling in bandwidth. This allows for better and faster Internet access and more app downloads. Even in the countries where the income is on the middle or even low end income, the amount of phones has increased by nearly a thousand and a half times from 2000 to 2010. That’s up from four phones to every one hundred people to nearly 75 phones to every one hundred.

The coverage that is offered in many rural places is still the 2g coverage, accounting for double the amount of the newer 3g. And rather than the phones Americans have, these phones are still used primarily to place calls. That being said, five trillion texts were sent in 2010 and the costs associated with sending them have allowed cell phone companies to gross around 100 billion dollars. And as the numbers of cell phones continue to rise, that number will only go up and up.

Future Generations

Everyone is familiar with the way young people have a liking for their mobile device and the same holds true for the people of developing countries. Today, those who are under 15 make up nearly a third of those who own phones in second and third world countries. That is something since the higher income bracket of those countries don’t even make up a fifth of that revenue.

Access = More Opportunities

And take note, this isn’t all bad news or young people just chatting up a storm in their bedrooms. With the use of these phones, these kids have access to not only employment, but education as well. It is education that drives economies, so phones are doing their part to helping raise these children up from poverty stricken areas.

Connecting The World

Being able to access the internet is just one small step in allowing people from around the world to be able to connect to each other. As the technology grows and expands, more people than ever before will be able to access the internet from their mobile device. It is estimated that a third of the people on the planet use the internet and of that number, nearly half are under 25. Today, Korea has the fastest internet in the world and China alone accounts for a quarter of all people who have access to the web.
As cell phones have grown and evolved, so too has their uses in the world today. These phones have allowed humans to connect with each other at an unprecedented level. With this growth, the opportunities for people to grow and prospered has increased.
